I have lectured in medical schools in Cameroon and Nigeria; I have carried out bedside clinical teaching, direct patient assessments and informal assessments of different healthcare infrastructures. I came to realise that the poor health outcomes was the result of the professionals providing their services in difficult circumstances. Furthermore, the patients could not afford quality healthcare. Those who can afford it tend to travel to other countries for treatment where they spend more money on travel and accommodation than on the actual medical treatment.
